Logos, & People & Community OH MY!

by Josh Gilman

Recently one of our speakers was at a high school  sharing their story of porn addiction and finding freedom. During the question & answer time, some of the students commented “but you don’t look like a porn addict”.

It might sound a little humorous because, what did they expect a porn addict to look like?

(Probably like Russell Brand, who ironically is someone who speaks out against pornography)

What an actual porn addict looks like – (that’s me)

The encouraging thing is that if it’s just average, “normal” looking people who can be addicted to porn. I don’t have to look far to find heroes of freedom and courage. My heroes in the anti-porn movement, my heroes who have fought through debilitating addiction and come out clean on the other side all look “normal” like me.

And as the word is spreading, there are so many “normal” people who are getting on board, helping out, being heroes and doing whatever they can.

Recently two friends helped us redo our Logo. It looks so much better!

See they are really good with graphics and I’m not. So they helped us out of the goodness of their hearts.

Is there something you would like to help us with? Maybe you don’t want to be a speaker, or writer, or counsellor, but if you want to help the cause then just remember that people who look just like you, can help rescue people who look just like me, and together we can all fight back against the plague of pornography.

I was not aware of what porn really entails and leads to.

Helped open my eyes to the nature of what porn is really like and what I can do about it.

I was slightly hesitant to bring in a speaker about pornography since it is such a taboo topic and can be difficult to discuss. Our presenter from Strength to Fight did an amazing job of explaining the many dangers of pornography while keeping the presentation appropriate and engaging for students.

Strength to Fight is on the vanguard of equipping families to protect all generations from the scourge of pornography. We had them at our inner city church and the audience was riveted with their powerful presentation. All of their literature was scooped up and our congregation is now asking for more resources.

Now I know how porn can ruin lives and can feed abuse towards people in porn. Any porn is bad porn.

I learnt so much about something that’s so pervasive in our culture. I wonder how I didn’t realize that. Good practical tips to deal with the problem.
