Why is Pamela Anderson against porn?

Josh GilmanAwareness, Culture, News

The top trending term on Facebook this morning was “Pamela Anderson”. But not for any reason you are used to seeing Pamela Anderson trending. Nope, this time it was because the headline “Pamela Anderson speaks out against pornography” was being clicked on and shared all around the world.

Why would the Canadian Model who has appeared on the cover of Playboy more than any other person ever, speak out against porn? Why would Anderson, who just this year was featured in the last issue of playboy to feature full nudity, speak out against porn? Why would someone who is famous for repeatedly stripping everything off in order to advocate for PETA speak out against porn?

Well as Strength To Fight’s Jonathon Van Maren says. “Porn is a great way to shoot your marriage in the head“. (Click to read the full article.)

You see no matter what you think about sexuality and nudity and monogamy, it is so obvious that porn is destructive that even people you never thought you might agree with on anything, end up writing Op-Eds in the Wall Street Journal with paragraphs like this.

“Simply put, we must educate ourselves and our children to understand that porn and sexting strangers is for losers – a boring, wasteful and dead-end outlet for people too lazy to reap the ample rewards of healthy sexuality.”  (Emphasis added)

Porn ruins everything it touches. So no matter your worldview, if porn has affected your life or the lives of those around you, you’ve seen that it’s wrong.

It’s why Time Magazine wrote a feature this year on why porn is wrong.

Why the Washington Post has featured articles this year on why porn is wrong.

It’s why famously (and purposely) vulgar talk show host Chelsea Handler featured anti-porn activists on her show this year.

It’s why at Strength To Fight we increasingly end up having less conversations with people about whether or not porn is a problem, and more that are simply about what to do about it.

The conversation in our culture is quickly turning against pornography. As more and more people ask the question, “what is wrong”, let’s make sure we aren’t just prepared with answers, but solutions.
